One of those rumored spots we couldn’t include in our 2014 preview last week is now confirmed. Michael Klein of The Insider got the go-ahead to make official what’s sure to be one of the year’s hottest openings: Stephen Starr and Aimee Olexy are teaming up for another project.

Though there’s no name as of yet, the Talula’s Garden and Talula’s Daily partners will be opening in Fishtown at 1526 Frankford Avenue. For the past several months, neighbors had noticed the building undergoing extensive renovations - it’s now clad in subtle-sexy black brick - and even told us they’d heard it would host a restaurant. Next door on one side is the Philadelphia Record Exchange, and on the other side is a large yard, which Klein says will host a vegetable garden.

Fishtown is getting hotter and hotter - while the Girard Avenue intersection is already the site of Johnny Brenda’s, Frankford Hall and Fette Sau, this new venture moves retail up further up the block to a newly gentrifying area where, not so long ago, “junkies used to burn copper wires,” according to one longtime resident. Also coming to the same stretch are Kensington Quarters, a new bar and butchery from the Bufad/Prohibition Taproom/Cafe Lift team, and La Colombe’s new distillery.
