We knew it was coming, but the date arrived quicker than we expected - this weekend is your last chance to BYO at Lolita. After service on Saturday, August 24, Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran will close their first restaurant venture for major renovations, the most obvious being the addition of a full bar to take advantage of their new liquor license.

The pair launched the Mexican restaurant back in 2004, when 13th Street was still shady and Midtown Village hadn’t been dreamed up yet, and still see the same faces returning again and again, nine years later.

When the spot reopens in the fall, the duo promises margaritas that are “fresh, affordable and delicious” from the bar, along with an entirely new menu full of tacos, tortas, tamales and more street-food-inspired cuisine. We’ll miss the bring-your-own-tequila mixers, but are definitely looking forward to the new incarnation.
