Mount Airy Brunch Sessions: 7 Must-Try Dishes

This weekend, northwest Philly neighborhood Mount Airy is doing something new for brunch. Seven eateries have joined forces for a promotion they’re calling “Brunch Sessions” - think restaurant week, but with more eggs.

On April 5-6, you’ll be able to select from special prix fixe brunch menus to get an entire meal - app, entree, side and coffee or tea - for just $16 per person. Options are all over the culinary map, from American faves to new tastes of India. We took a look at the menus to find a plate worth traveling for at each dining room. (NB: some restaurants are offering reservations, but many are walk-in only.)

  • Avenida

    The Gist: This Latin American in a historic colonial home will help you get a sweet start.
    Eat This: Coconut waffles with vanilla cream
    Drink This: Paloma (tequila, grapefruit soda, grenadine; $8)

  • Geechee Girl Rice Cafe

    The Gist: Soul food Southern style is what Valerie Erwin’s BYO is all about.
    Eat This: Grit cake Benedict with house-smoked salmon and sautéed asparagus
    Drink This: South African ginger beer (fresh ginger, OJ, honey, iced tea; $3.50)

  • Trolley Car Diner

    The Gist: Michael Fee is the new chef at this 1950s retro diner in a real deal trolley car.
    Eat This: Stuffed French toast (cinnamon-raising brioche, Nutella)
    Drink This: Ken’s Adult Strawberry Float (Lancaster strawberry wheat beer with strawberry ice cream; $7.95)

  • Earth Bread + Brewery

    The Gist: This brewpub is all about respecting our planet by supporting local businesses and sustainable products.
    Eat This: Corned beef hash flatbread (cream cheese tomato sauce, corned beef, potatoes, roasted onions, fried egg)
    Drink This: A mimosa, glass of draft wine or 13-oz. draft beer is included as the “side dish”

  • Jyoti Indian Bistro

    The Gist: Proprietor Jyoti Gupta translates the flavors of Indian home cooking to this BYO.
    Eat This: Samosas (peas and potato plus your choice of chutney)

  • Goat Hollow

    The Gist: Lots of stone and exposed brick give this bi-level American Brasserie a welcoming vibe.
    Eat This: Philly-style poutine (creamed chipped beef over tots topped with two eggs)

    The Gist: Inside a historic schoolhouse you’ll find house-baked pastries at this BYO.
