Night gathers, and the beer drinking begins. Although Brewery Ommegang’s online beer finder doesn’t yet show it's available, Take the Black Stout landed in Philly last week. The Belgian dark ale is the second release from the Cooperstown, NY brewery's collaboration with HBO on a series of Game of Thrones beers, this one inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch.

The 7% ABV stout is brewed with two kinds of malt, Midnight wheat and roasted barley, and hopped with two kinds of hops. Licorice root and star anise add flavor, and the result is slightly sweet but very drinkable despite the relatively high alcohol content.

Like the initial release, the GOT beer is available on draft and in 750-ml. corked-and-caged bottles. It should be slightly easier to get your hands on than Iron Throne Blonde Ale, because this time around Ommegang brewed almost triple the volume, learning from the previous beer’s success.

Take the Black Stout is currently pouring at The Industry in Pennsport and London Grill in Fairmount, and the local Ommegang rep tells us it’s been delivered to many other bars, who may be holding it for special tapping events. As of this past weekend, bottles had been delivered to beer stores and distributors, so keep your eyes on the watch for it around town.
