Union Taco Coming to West Girard This FallBy Danya Henninger | September 9, 2013 By Danya Henninger | September 9, 2013
At the beginning of summer, Verdad chef-owner Nick Farina launched a taco truck on the Main Line. Things went so well that the Bryn Mawr restaurateur is coming to Philadelphia proper with Union Taco, a 20-seat taqueria due to open in early October.
At 712 West Girard, Union Taco will specialize in Mexican street food. Look for tacos (two for $6), tortas ($7 each), flatbread pizzas ($8-$12) and for dessert, churros with spicy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce ($3 for a bag). Taco fillings being teased include pork carnitas with pomegranate, kobe beef with figs and mahi-mahi with carrot slaw.
Farina is going for a classic Southern California feel for his taqueria. ““I describe the feel as ‘where the gringo meets the street,’” he says. Simple decor will feature wood tables and chairs over white ceramic tile with colorful walls.
The BYO will offer a variety of Mexican sodas and specialty margarita mixers for tote-along tequila.
