Variety's the spice of life! But sometimes it's hard to know what's a must-try dish, and when to take a pass. That's why Zagat San Diego spotlights can't-miss hot plates worth seeking out. Know of an excellent menu item in town? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter via @ZagatSanDiego.

The Dish: Triton fries at Supernatural Sandwiches

The Price: $13

Tasting Notes: Miramar’s Supernatural Sandwiches is renowned for its Asian fusion hand-helds featuring local catches and lobster, yellowtail, shrimp, scallops, crab, Chinese sausage, Korean steak and the like. Now the folks behind Supernatural are setting their sights on conquering the fry world with Triton fries, an off-the-menu item that rivals any of the restaurant’s sandwiches and acts more than a mere side accompaniment. The foundation begins with thick, hand-cut fries slathered with cheese, Thai chili aioli and cilantro sauces, and then it's then crowned with loads of chopped lobster, shrimp and baby scallops. Packed with umami, it’s the rightful successor to carne asada fries but with a memorable seafaring twist.

Good to Know: The restaurant recently moved to a bigger location in the same strip mall. Now you can belly up to the bar to order beer, sit outside on the patio or enjoy the dining room.
