$10 Lunch: Namu Street Food's OkonomiyakiBy Tamara Palmer

Namu Gaji sets up the Namu Street Food tent at Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Thursdays from 10 AM to 2 PM and Saturdays from 8 AM to 2 PM. The most popular item is usually the "real Korean tacos," which wrap up Korean barbecued beef in sheets of nori, but the okonomiyaki is a better choice if you're really hungry. It's a solid rendition of a popular Japanese savory pancake that captures the ideal contrast between gooey and crispy amidst its layers of fluttering bonito fish flakes, kimchee, mixed vegetables and sweet Kewpie mayonnaise. The cooks achieve these textures outside in - how shall we say this? - less than optimal conditions, which is rather amazing. The cost of the okonomiyaki is $8, or you can add a free range egg to it for an even $10.
