Back for its sixth year running, the Eat Real Festival is a sprawling feast taking over Oakland’s Jack London Square from Friday, September 19, to Sunday, September 21. Along with plentiful vendors, food trucks, and stands from local restaurants and food producers, there will also be DIY workshops, competitions and chef demos, plus The Watering Hole (requiring ticketed entry), an indoor space for tippling wines, spirits, beers and ciders, as well as coffee and other nonalcoholic drinks.

New Additions: This year watch for seven new food and drink pavilions in categories from butchery to fermentation. There are also first-time events like a Kimchi-a-thon from Happy Girl Kitchen and Farmhouse Culture, an Offal Wonderful Bloody Brunch and Jack's Oyster Bar & Fish House's Oyster Shuck-Off. Also launching this year, Friday is Oakland Chef Night, with live demos from Preeti Mistry (Juhu Beach Club), Rico Rivera (Flora), Rick Hackett (Bocanova), Gloria Dominguez (Tamarindo) and Charlie Parker (Haven).

Details: Attendance is free, while all street-food items are priced at $8 or less, and proceeds benefit the festival's nonprofit sponsor, Food Craft Institute. The event runs Friday from 1-9 PM, Saturday 10:30 AM-9 PM and Sunday 10:30 AM-5 PM, and takes place at Jack London Square in Oakland (starting at 65 Webster Street, running west of Embarcadero).
