Now you can eat an oyster and support sustainable seafood charities in one bite. Waterbar co-owners Pat Kuleto, Mark Franz, Pete Sittnick and Parke Ulrich just launched the “Oyster Give Back” campaign in early June. Five cents from every single oyster sold will be donated to local seafood-related charities — a different one each quarter — starting with The Watershed Project, which focuses on rebuilding the Bay Area's oyster population.
Waterbar serves over 2000 bivalves a day and has shucked more than two million oysters since opening in January 2008. So its work with sustainable seafood practices and relationships with oyster farmers actually will make a difference.
