Stephen Starr Taking Fatty Crab National
Since opening in the West Village in 2005, hip Southeast Asian restaurant Fatty Crab has expanded to the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong, plus spawned two outposts of BBQ concept Fatty Cue (in Williamsburg and the West Village). Now the operation is set for a growth surge: parent company Fatty Crew has partnered with restaurateur Stephen Starr to open eight more Fatty Crab branches across the U.S., plus one in London, Crain’s New York reports.
Fatty Crew president Rick Camac fell in love with Starr’s restaurants when visiting Philadelphia, and then reached out to discuss a partnership. Starr Restaurants, which currently runs 27 restaurants in Philadelphia, DC, Atlantic City and Fort Lauderdale, will handle operations at all of the new Fatty Crab locations. The first joint venture is set to open in Washington, DC later this year, and a Philly outpost is also planned, according to The Insider.
