5 Must-Try DC Summer Food & Drink Festivals

If there's one thing to be learned from scanning our list of the summer's hottest food and drink festivals, it's that y'all like some BBQ and beer. And some bourbon. It's not all meat and booze, though. Here are five delicious ways to get your fill of summer's bounty: 

What: DC Green Festival  
The Gist: This festival features more than 200 exhibitors showcasing vegan, vegetarian and eco-friendly products, services and resources. Food-wise, there will be organic food booths; cooking demos; a sustainable beer and wine garden; and a vegan/vegetarian food court.
Date: May 31-June 1
Time: 10 AM-6 PM
Cost: $10-$25
Where: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Pl. NW

What: Beer, Bourbon & BBQ 
The Gist: Unlimited tastings of 60 draft beers and 40 bourbons, plus music, cigars, BBQ for purchase, seminars with master distillers, brewmasters and pitmasters.
Date: June 6-7
Time: 6-10 PM June 6; 2-6 PM June 7
Cost: $25-$99
Where: National Harbor waterfront

What: Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle  
The Gist: This is the 22nd year for this event, which features a BBQ battle, food samples, three live-music stages, cooking demos and umpteen BBQ stalls - all for the benefit of local children’s charities. What could be better?
Date: June 21-22
Time: 12-6 PM
Cost: $12-$15 (free for children 12 and younger)

What: Brew at the Zoo  
The Gist: Ticket-holders receive unlimited samples from more than 60 local and national craft breweries, plus a commemorative mug and live entertainment. Food trucks will be on site for food purchases, and VIP tickets include bites from participating local restaurants.

Time: 5-9 PM
Cost: $50-$100
Where: The National Zoo, near Lion/Tiger Hill

What: Maryland Crab & Beer Festival  
The Gist: There will be more than 50,000 pounds of Old Bay crusted blue crabs for your eat-till-you-bust pleasure, along with beer, arts and crafts, live music and free watermelon.
Date: August 16
Time: 11 AM-3 PM; 5-9 PM
Cost: $29-$119 (free for children 3 and younger)
