Best Bets for Mother’s Day Dining in DCBy Nevin Martell | April 25, 2014 By Nevin Martell | April 25, 2014
Mother's Day is still a few weeks away, but choice reservations can fill up fast. Here are some of our favorite places where you can celebrate her with some fine food - and bubbly, of course.
Why She’ll Love It: Refined pan-Asian fare from executive chef Scott Drewno in a streamlined, sun-dappled space. Since it’s perched above the National Mall, you can take a leisurely stroll there afterwards and reminisce about your childhood hijinks.
Must-Try Dish: Four-courses - including sushi and oysters - plus a complimentary glass of champers, a flower for mom and take home goodies for $75 per person (not including tax or gratuity).
575 Pennsylvania Ave. NW; 202-637-6100
Why She’ll Love It: There’s no need to snap blurry, oddly angled selfies to commemorate the occasion, since a pro shutterbug will be on site from 11:30 AM until 2 PM to offer their services.
Must-Try Dish: Enjoy a prix fixe brunch menu from 10:30 AM until 10 PM for $68 per person (not including tax or gratuity).
515 15th St. NW; 202-661-2440
Why She’ll Love It: This suburban standout offers rustic Italian fare with refined touches, such as a garlicky, truffled breakfast pizza coronated with burrata, mascarpone, sausage, and, of course, an egg.
Must-Try Dish: The usual brunch menu is available, as well as a trio of specials, including housemade spaghetti tossed with mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp and a slightly spicy tomato sauce.
2727 Merrilee Dr., Merrifield, VA; 703-573-2161
Why She’ll Love It: Beautiful lakeside views, a koi pond and a beautiful brunch from executive chef Bertrand Chemel. Plus pastry chef Caitlin Dysart’s desserts. 'nuff said.
Must-Try Dish: The three-course prix fixe brunch is $70 per person, a vegetarian three-course prix fixe is $50 per person and the children’s menu is $25 per person (not including tax or gratuity).
2941 Fairview Park Dr., Falls Church, VA; 703-270-1515
Why She’ll Love It: You’ll feel like you’re in Paris when you sit down at one of the intimate balcony tables that overlook the main dining room of this charming French restaurant.
Must-Try Dish: The three-course French focused prix fixe brunch, which is available from 11 AM until 7 PM is $55 per person (not including tax or gratuity).
7101 Brookville Rd., Chevy Chase, MD, 301-986-5255
Pose Rooftop Lounge
Why She’ll Love It: Stunning views of the Potomac River, Alexandria and DC, plus a complimentary family photo.
Must-Try Dish: The station setup includes breakfast favorites, charcuterie, carving meats, Asian dishes and Viennese classics, and costs $67 per adult and $35 for children ages three-12.
201 Waterfront St., National Harbor, MD; 301-965-4000
