Best Thing We Ate This Weekend
Ok we admit it. We’ve eaten the foie gras parfait at Le Diplomate before. And it’s no understatement to say that we’ve been thinking that perfect fluffy, buttery mound of foie-and-chicken-liver mousse ever since we sampled it when the restaurant first opened this spring. The promise of tasting that dish again lured us back to the 14th Street bistro this weekend.
Served as a large quenelle sprinkled with chives and sea salt at one end of a wooden plank, the parfait is accompanied by a fennel aigre-doux - think a dark, thick jam - and toasted triangles of brioche.
We appreciate even more that it’s served at brunch as well as dinner, giving us twice the opportunity to sneak in the rich indulgence - as well as an excuse to eat more of the restaurant’s outstanding bread. À bientôt, foie gras parfait ($14; 202-332-3333).
