Coffee Talk: Buzz Bakery Opens Third Spot TodayBy Rina Rapuano | October 31, 2013 By Rina Rapuano | October 31, 2013
This has been a good week for coffee lovers. First, we heard that Zeke’s Coffee plans to open a new coffee shop and roastery in Northeast DC on Saturday.
And, today, Buzz Bakery opened its third location - this one adjacent to two sister projects at Navy Yard, brand-new brewery Bluejacket and restaurant The Arsenal. Like other Buzz shops, customers can drop in and order well-crafted cup of Ceremony coffee and well-crafted espresso drinks.
But this outpost of the bakery will have a unique focus for the chainlet: ice cream. Pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac is a fan and has created such classic flavors as malt chocolate, fresh mint-chip and chocolate-chip-cookie dough and seasonal varieties like toasted marshmallow, pumpkin, Concord grape and green-apple sorbet. All will be available by the scoop or by the pint.
We’re also pretty excited about the sundaes she has created, including a pumpkin pie sundae - two scoops of pumpkin-pie ice cream topped with caramel sauce, gingersnap crumble, cinnamon whipped cream and candied cranberries. Cookies, brownies and warm seasonal crumbles will also be available a la mode (300 Tingey St. SE; 202-524-4989).
In addition, Palena is preparing to unveil its new coffee shop in the space that used to house its market next week, according to updates on Twitter. The Washington Post reported earlier this week that the converted space will offer breakfast pastries like fresh croissants and scones as well as coffee. The Post also says lunch will include items like ham turnovers and quiche (202-537-9250).
