Panda Gourmet Fires Up New York Ave. NEBy Olga Boikess | September 9, 2013 By Olga Boikess | September 9, 2013
The foodie buzz about a Chinese restaurant in a New York Ave. NE corridor Days Inn has become a roar. Panda Gourmet is hard to get to even if you’re driving, and doesn’t look like much from the outside, but recent write-ups in the Washington Post and Washingtonian’s online sites have put it on the must-try map.
Order from the long, intriguing Chinese/English menu and experience mouth tingling, ma la Sichuan spice. Hot means hot, but the tastes are complex. You’ll see an order of dan dan noodles on most tables for good reason, and tofu dishes are another top choice. A Chinese “burger” features the kind of sauce that people keep eating after the burger is gone. Bottom line: Program your GPS device, and see for yourself (2700 New York Ave. NE; 202-534-1620).
