Plan Ahead: FreshFarm Markets’ Farmland FeastBy Rina Rapuano
November 4, 2013 By Rina Rapuano | November 4, 2013
November 11 is a tough night for Washingtonians who love big-time food events: They must choose between the Capital Food Fight and FreshFarm Markets’ Farmland Feast, when area chefs gather to cook in support of the farmers’ market group’s mission “to build and strengthen the local, sustainable food movement in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.”
This year, chef Brian McBride of RW Restaurant Group will preside over a team of celebrated local chefs that will collaborate on a fall-inspired sit-down dinner encompassing two courses plus dessert. Participating chefs include Cedric Maupillier of Mintwood Place, Frank Ruta of Palena and Jeff Tunks of DC Coast. Desserts created by Duane Copeland of The Source and Susan Wallace of BlackSalt will be accompanied by Zoe’s Chocolates, Peregrine Espresso coffee and artisanal liqueurs from Don Ciccio & Figli.
Throughout dinner, there will be a live auction as some of the most well-regarded sommeliers in the city will pour selections from local vintners.
For the first time, the event offers a cocktail-party-only ticket that includes access to an oyster and beer bar featuring local oysters from Great Wicomico Oyster Co. Seasonally inspired small plates will be prepared by such chefs as John Critchley of Bourbon Steak, Tarver King of The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm and Aaron McCloud of Cedar. Locally sourced cocktails will be shaken by mixologist superstars Derek Brown of the newly opened Eat the Rich, Adam Bernbach of 2 Birds 1 Stone and Gina Chersevani of Buffalo & Bergen.
Tickets for the reception and the multicourse sit-down dinner cost $300; the cocktail-party-only ticket costs $125. The event takes place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, 1150 22nd St. NW, from 6-10 PM, with the cocktail party ending at 8 PM (202-362-8889).
