Sandwich Board: Cork Market on 14th Street NW

Every once in a while, we like to stop chasing the next new thing and revisit some old reliables. This week, we stopped in to Cork Market & Tasting Room to sample some of the pre-made sandwiches from their refrigerated case. These are clearly refreshed regularly - a far cry from soggy messes that can happen when sandwiches sit around for a bit. Unfortunately, they were out of the popular veggie-pesto-goat-cheese sandwich, but we ate our way through a chicken salad sandwich on a housemade bun, a ham and Camembert creation and a prosciutto-Fontina stack. Here’s our top pick:

What to Get: The “ham & Cam”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        The Tasty Bits: Slices of smoky ham paired with the creamy French cheese, pickled onions, mixed greens and a sinus-clearing slather of Dijon mustard on sliced rustic bread.
Cost: $9
Good to Know: This is a great place for picnic supplies that, aside from sandwiches, also include a wonderful crock of pâté, cold fried chicken, cheeses and desserts - like a decadent peanut-butter-fudge brownie that was more fudge than brownie. On weekends, they add a pork banh mi to the mix.
