Mike Isabella’s 14th Street NW sandwich shop, G, kicked off a new monthly “guest sandwich” special this week by introducing The Drewno ($12), a sub created by chef Scott Drewno of The Source. Each month, a different chef friend of Isabella’s will develop a sandwich that will be featured all month at the shop.

This news came with the announcement that the shop’s hours have been extended from weekday lunch hours to 11 AM-9 PM Sunday through Thursday (takeout only after 5 PM), and 11 AM-5 PM Friday and Saturday.

So, how does the Drewno taste? It’s a deliciously messy mash-up of housemade kielbasa, sliced beef, sauerkraut and spicy giardiniera, with the outstanding kielbasa and hot Italian veggie pickles providing the boldest flavors.

December will bring a fresh reason to hit the sandwich shop: a sandwich special dreamed up by Bibiana chef Nick Stefanelli (202-234-5015).
