Todd English Splits with MXDC

It appears that celebrity chef Todd English has left the DC restaurant scene for a third time. Eater DC reported today that his break with MXDC, which was announced and then recanted last week, is now official. The site points to a press release dated today.

According to the release, “Chef Todd English’s consultancy with Washington D.C. based Mexican restaurant MXDC has been fulfilled and he will no longer be associated with the establishment owned by Aziz Safi.”

Some may remember that English put his name behind the much-anticipated Cha at the Donovan House hotel in 2009, but the chef had packed up his brand and left town before the restaurant ever officially opened. (It then changed to the Susur Lee-backed Zentan and is now finding success without any celebrity chef attached to it at all.) English also had his Olives concept downtown, but that closed the same year the Cha deal fell through.

Restaurateur Safi opened MXDC this summer with chef Juan Carlos “JC” Pavlovich heading the kitchen locally (202-393-1900).
