- After 11 years in business, Vermilion in Old Town temporarily closed last night for a five-day refresh that will include refinished floors, updated furniture and updated design elements. The restaurant is expected to reopen for dinner Friday and will celebrate its new look — and its anniversary — with a July 17 party that starts at 8 PM with live music, guest bartenders, a special lounge menu and a toast at 11 PM (1120 King St., Alexandria; 703-684-9669).
- The Washington Post reports that Bryan Voltaggio intends to open his third restaurant in Chevy Chase Pavilion July 14, a rebirth of the celebrity chef’s family-friendly Lunchbox that closed in Frederick, Md., late last year. The casual spot joins Range and Aggio in the Friendship Heights shopping center.
- Ice Cream Jubilee hosts a grand opening Saturday in the Yards Park development in the Navy Yard/Capital Riverfront neighborhood. Owner Victoria Lai, a presidential appointee who transformed into an ice cream entrepreneur, will serve up at least a dozen flavors like Dark & Stormy, Mango Habanero and Thai Iced Tea from her first brick and mortar shop in addition to brewing Zeke’s coffee from 10 AM-10 PM Monday through Saturday, and 11 AM-8 PM Sundays (301 Water St. SE).
