The food and drink events have taken on a definite holiday theme this weekend. Get out there and taste all that the season has to offer, and maybe do some good in the process:
Central Michel Richard hosts its annual Sweet Hope: Dessert for Toys reception from 1-3 PM, when the donation of an unwrapped toy (or money) for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital gains entrance to a dessert extravaganza featuring the chef’s sweet creations. Maple hosts a Champagne and oysters wine tasting from 2-4 PM, when Robert McFarlane of Roanoke Valley Wine Co. will speak about pairing bubbly with bivalves. Small-grower varieties will be available for tasting, along with local oysters from Maryland's Dragon Creek. Cost is $65, including tax and gratuity. Chef Carmine Marzano conducts an Italian-style Christmas cooking class from 11 AM-2 PM at Osteria Marzano. Dishes covered will include spinach and ricotta agnolotti with walnut cream sauce and roasted rack of lamb with lentil salad, roast potatoes and rosemary jus. Café Deluxe Tysons Corner is offering a $25 three-course dinner Sunday nights. The meal starts with a salad; choice of entree includes grilled salmon with red pepper coulis and goat cheese-asparagus orzo; and the meal is capped with a crème brûlée. The offer runs from 4 PM to close (703-761-0600).
Roof Terrace Restaurant at the Kennedy Center hosts a holiday brunch with Santa today and next Sunday with live jazz, the full brunch spread and a “special memento.” There will be a kids table with macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers and fries, while adults will receive a complimentary mimosa or glass of sparkling wine for $45 per person, $20 for ages 4-11.
