Where to Brunch This Weekend: Ovvio OsteriaBy Rina Rapuano | October 25, 2013 By Rina Rapuano | October 25, 2013
Late this summer, area residents got yet another compelling reason to check out Merrifield, VA: Ovvio Osteria in Halstead Square near the Mosaic District. The casual Italian restaurant that specializes in pizzas and Calabrian-inspired cuisine now offers brunch, complete with Bellinis and a pet-friendly patio.
Diners have some interesting choices among savory and sweet dishes, like the pork Milanese benedict - served on a biscuit with sausage gravy, poached eggs and zabaglione - and the lemon-ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote.
If you’re a pizza-all-the-time kind of person, six pies are available during brunch - but the kitchen steers away from trying to make them breakfasty. Instead, you’ll find a classic margherita and a clam pie, among others. Other savory dishes, like mussels in a sausage-fennel broth as well as grilled Portuguese octopus with peppers and potatoes, also appear on the brunch menu.
Ovvio serves brunch Sundays from 10:30 AM-2:30 PM (703-573-2161).
