Where to Eat Brunch: Maple in Columbia HeightsBy Rina Rapuano | August 1, 2014 By Rina Rapuano | August 1, 2014
The Spot: Maple
The Gist: This neighborhood favorite is expanding its brunch hours starting this weekend by adding Saturdays and opening at 10 AM both days going forward. New brunch items include baccala potato cakes, brioche French toast and a short-rib hash. Deal alert: To celebrate its inaugural Saturday brunch, those who order a mimosa before noon this Saturday will receive it on the house.
Eat This: The brunch menu has been revamped a bit and can be found here, but we have enjoyed a pork belly and polenta dish that’s still on the menu ($12). We also loved a fennel-arugula-citrus salad that didn’t make the cut for the new menu and a pastrami hash special.
The Scene: Young professionals and families flock to this relaxed spot, where the handful of sidewalk tables usually fill up first on nice days.
Know Before You Go: With word of the new brunch came the news that Maple expects to open its new back patio within the next two weeks, more than doubling its current capacity. Soon after, the owners expect to open up the space they took over when Columbia Heights Coffee closed last fall, giving them an additional 24 seats downstairs plus private dining upstairs.
