A big night out should start with a killer meal and end with a drink or three (and maybe an Uber home). Here’s where to pre-fuel and post-party…

The Indigo Girls - those darlings of the ’90s coffee-shop scene, the flip side of Nirvana and Pearl Jam - are playing at The Birchmere in Alexandria tonight, and we hear Doc Martins and tights under holey jeans are not required. Here’s where to eat and drink before and after embracing your inner ’90s college student:

Dinner Before: We think the Indigo Girls would feel right at home at RT’s, an unpretentious neighborhood spot that has been dishing out Cajun favorites for decades. Focus on popular seafood dishes like the crawfish etouffee and the Jack Daniel’s shrimp.

Drinks After: Head over to the heart of Del Ray, where Evening Star Café (which, frankly, sounds like it should be an Indigo Girls song) offers retro-diner-meets-Victorian-parlor nooks perfect for continuing the party. Park it in the Majestic Lounge behind the dining room for an Oaxacan Hipster (PBR, mezcal, lime and chipotle) cocktail, a glass of wine likely pulled from the expert shelves of the adjacent Planet Wine or one of nearly 20 craft drafts on tap.
