Where We’d Spend Our Own Money: A James Beard Celebrity Chef Dinner at The Source

By Rina Rapuano  |  July 9, 2014

We attend plenty of food events studded with local chef talent, but event announcements rarely sound as promising as this one: a James Beard Foundation dinner hosted by The Source.

The $200 Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner will take place August 4 starting at 6:30 PM with a cocktail reception featuring bites from Toki Underground chef-owner Erik Bruner-Yang; Maple Ave and Water & Wall chef-owner Tim Ma; and The Source’s chef, Scott Drewno. Mixology master Derek Brown of Columbia Room and Eat The Rich will craft cocktails for the reception, which will be followed by a five-course dinner plus an amuse bouche cooked up by the likes of Mama and Danny Lee of  Mandu; Eric Ziebold of  CityZen; Top Chef winner Kristen Kish; recent James Beard Award winner Vikram Sunderam of Rasika; the once elusive Peter Chang of China Café; and a dessert by The Source pastry chef Duane Copeland.

DC residents are well familiar with the accomplishments of the local chefs in the lineup, but this is a rare opportunity to try the food of Kish and Chang without traveling.

A similar dinner was held at  Kapnos this April, and the photos popping up on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter had us green with envy. We’re not likely to miss out on this one.
