NYC chefs take the concept of “farm-to-table” seriously, working with nearby farms to design their seasonal menus around the freshest ingredients. These are the restaurants that really earn the title.

Gramercy Tavern
American · Flatiron · $$$$
Food 4.8 · Decor 4.6 · Service 4.7

You can rely on “top-class” dining with “no gimmicks” at Danny Meyer’s enduring Flatiron New American, where chef Michael Anthony’s “outstanding” set menus are presented by “eminently suave” staffers in an “upscale-country” dining room arrayed with “gorgeous” flower displays; it’s “not cheap by any means” , though the front tavern offers a “reasonable” à la carte menu in a “colorful” walk-in setting; P.S. gratuity is now built into menu prices.
Blue Hill
American · Greenwich Village · $$$$
Food 4.7 · Decor 4.4 · Service 4.7

A true “farm-to-table pioneer” , Dan Barber’s Village American “does a magnificent job” producing “unbelievably fresh and flavorful” American fare with “thoroughly satisfying” seasonal “integrity” ; set in a “lovely, calm” room run by an “especially caring” staff, it “isn’t cheap” but the performance is “worth repeat visits.”
Roberta's
American · Bushwick · $$
Food 4.6 · Decor 3.8 · Service 3.9

“Legendary" by now, this this “hipster-chic” Bushwick destination is a “real standout” thanks to “expertly crafted” pizzas (try the “out-of-this-world” bee sting) and “equally amazing” Italian dishes, enhanced by homegrown produce; perpetual “crowds” make for “massive” waits, but once you're in it's “loads of fun.”
ABC Kitchen
American · Flatiron · $$$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.4 · Service 4.3

Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s “hip” Flatiron “winner” “still delivers” with “original” , “all-around delicious” American cooking ordered from a “sophisticated” farm-to-table menu; a “stylish” , “airy” space further justifies the “spendy” tabs – and the “challenge to get a reservation.”
Narcissa
New American · East Village · $$$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.2 · Service 4.2

“Talented” chef John Fraser puts forth “inspired” , “veggie-forward” New American cuisine at this “upscale” destination in the Standard East Village Hotel with serious “farm-to-table” cred (some produce is “grown Upstate” at the co-owner’s farm); its “lovely” , “sunny” interior and garden have a “relaxed” vibe, and the “fun crowd” adds “energy.”
Market Table
New American · West Village · $$$
Food 4.4 · Decor 4.1 · Service 4.3

A “solid farm-to-table” approach makes for “engaging dishes” at this West Village New American, a corner outfit with “big picture windows” , “warm” service and an “unpretentious” vibe; it “continues to amaze” a wide following, meaning it's on the “crowded” side at prime times.
