Here's the top Asian restaurants on the scene in Houston.

Fung's Kitchen
Dim Sum · Sharpstown · $$
Food 4.4 · Decor 4.0 · Service 3.9

"Go to China without leaving Houston" via this expansive Sharpstown Chinese where the "huge" menu of "classic Hong Kong–style" cooking includes seafood straight from the tanks, many "unique" dishes (think goose web with sea cucumber) and "one of the best dim sum" experiences around, as evidenced by a packed house on weekends; though the staff might be "friendly" , don’t expect too much in the way of service or setting.
Uchi
Japanese · Montrose · $$
Food 4.8 · Decor 4.5 · Service 4.5

It’s "always an adventure for the palate" at chef Tyson Cole’s Montrose outpost of his Austin original, plating "sushi creations" that are "music in your mouth" plus plenty of other "innovative, delectable" Japanese options that don’t involve raw fish; the scene – amid soft lighting and warm woods – is "impossibly hip" , and the tabs are "expensive" but "worth it" ; P.S. it’s "hard to get a reservation" because most of the seats are saved for walk-ins.
Kata Robata
Japanese · Upper Kirby · $$
Food 4.6 · Decor 4.1 · Service 4.4

"Excellent sushi and other Japanese delicacies" from Manabu Horiuchi and his staff keep this Upper Kirby hot spot "deservedly always crowded" ; the warm interior is sophisticated yet "feels very relaxing" , and there’s a tranquil patio too; P.S. during the daytime, the "lunch bento is a great value."
Huynh Restaurant
Vietnamese · EaDo
Food 4.5 · Decor 3.7 · Service 4.3

"Tucked away in a strip mall in EaDo" , this modest eatery serves up some of "the best Vietnamese food in town" "without all the frills" ; it’s family-run, with a noticeably "accommodating" staff; P.S. you can BYOB for "a nominal charge."
Uptown Sushi
Japanese · Galleria · $$
Food 4.4 · Decor 4.3 · Service 4.1

Sushi and sashimi that’s "always fresh" plus other "well-prepared, flavorful" dishes (and cocktails) are the draw to this Galleria-area Japanese that’s a popular late-night haunt; the "friendly, knowledgeable" staff and striking contemporary setting help to create an "upscale" atmosphere worthy of the Uptown address.
