Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen
Cajun · Upper Kirby · $$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.1 · Service 4.3

"Excellent-quality seafood" is the centerpiece of this Cajun-inspired "upscale chain" that doles out "generous" portions of gumbo, fried shrimp and crab; service can be "hit-or-miss" , but the "eclectic ambiance takes you right back to the bayou" , albeit a bayou that’s "busy, busy, busy" and "noisy."
Eddie V's Prime Seafood
Seafood · Upper Kirby · $$$$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.5 · Service 4.4

"Seafood as fresh as it gets" plus "surprisingly excellent steak" and an "exceptional" wine list combine for an overall "wonderful experience" in dark, handsome surrounds at these outposts of the upscale national chain; throw in "polished, professional" service, live jazz every night and "excellent" specials at happy hour, and no wonder it’s "always a favorite" for high rollers and special-occasion outings.
Giacomo's Cibo e Vino

Food 4.5 · Decor 3.5 · Service 3.7

"Many intriguing options" of "real Italian" small plates are served along with a "terrific wine list" at Lynette Hawkins’ deservedly "popular neighborhood spot" in the Upper Kirby area; the "modern, bare-bones" setting has a "chic company-lunchroom" vibe punctuated by colorful geometric tiles on the wall, but that doesn’t deter weekend crowds.

Food 4.5 · Decor 3.5 · Service 4.0

"To-die-for" deep-dish pizza is the calling card of these Houston "icons" that have been doling out their "awesome" pies since 1976; the casual digs have patio seating, and though some say the "service needs work" , these spots are "fun" and "worth checking out."
Breakfast · Upper Kirby · $$
Food 4.1 · Decor 4.0 · Service 3.9

Expect a "hip, modern take" on Indian street food at this Upper Kirby outpost that serves "fresh, flavorful" breakfasts, lunches and dinners and "doesn’t scrimp on the spices" ; ensconced in the West Ave shopping-condo development, it features an industrial-chic setting along with a "lively" atmosphere, bolstered in part by an interesting wine and beer menu; P.S. the Bake + Lab is upstairs.
