The White Bull Tavern
Bar · Downtown · $$

A portrait of William Blackstone, regarded as Boston's first colonial settler (who supposedly rode a white bull into the city), presides over the antique- and curio-stuffed dining room at this two-floor modern tavern steps from Downtown's historic Faneuil Hall, where nearly all the gastropub eats touch the gold-foiled oven, from steaming skillets full of appetizers to custom pizzas. It's all washed down by two-dozen beers on draft and interesting cocktails served in unorthodox vessels like vintage briefcases.
Jana Grill & Bakery

Delta Haus
Bar · Financial District · $

After-work crowds find fraternity at this Financial District bar that is inspired by cult college-set comedies like "Animal House" and "Revenge of the Nerds," hence the cocktails named for movie characters, craft beer served in plastic cups, simple apps (like "pledge pretzels" ) and appropriate decor of dart boards and cozy couches. Its similar sibling neighbor is Bushwood Cocktail Club, a "Caddyshack" movie-themed watering hole.
Mediterranean · Fenway/Kenmore · $

Oisa Ramen
Ramen · Financial District · $

A pop-up ramen operation with a cult following has finally launched this brick-and-mortar eatery, a lunch-only (for now) Downtown spot serving slurp-worthy bowls in an intimate setting with limited standing and counter space that adjoins Tiki Rock, a neighboring bar offering tropical cocktails and pan-Asian grub.
Blossom Bar

Tiki Rock
Financial District · $

Downtown types gather for after-work drinks in a luau-style setting at this fun, island-inspired tiki bar, the kind of place where Polynesian-style cocktails might be bedecked with miniature umbrellas, and where the tropical libations and kitsch environs come with an array of pan-Asian eats, from sushi rolls to pu-pu platters.
The Bagel Table
Brunch · $

Shoppers at The Street, a trendy Chestnut Hill strip of retail joints, refuel at this breakfast and lunch cafe offering their so-dubbed OMG! Bagels, a brand that became popular popping up at local farmer's markets, plus other AM bites and sandwiches and coffee in a simple, homey counter-service space.
American · $$

The team behind two popular Newton restaurants, sycamore and Little Big Diner, shoot for a hat trick with this more family-friendly affair, a rustic-cool neighborhood restaurant serving New American cuisine, a selection of "potted and preserved" snacks to a la carte grilled meats, in a relaxed setting with craft cocktails and small-production wines.
Flatbread Company Brighton
Pizza · Brighton · $$

True North Ale Company

The coastal town of Ipswich has brewed up a destination for beer lovers with this craft suds facility and taproom, where guests gather at communal tables with big picture-window views of the production floor and high-speed canning line, or on the outdoor patio, to tip back IPAs, lagers and other styles poured from 20 taps.
Tuscan Kitchen Seaport
Italian · Seaport District

This Seaport outpost of a New Hampshire-founded small chain of rustic-chic Italian eateries is a sprawling one, serving scratch-made artisan fare, from crudo to cured meats, in a 300-seat dining room, plus 400 varieties of vino at an 80-seat wine bar.
