Pizzeria Mozza
Pizza · Hancock Park · $$
Food 4.7 · Decor 4.0 · Service 4.2

"No exaggeration" : they've practically "perfected the art of pizza" at this perpetually "jumpin'" Bastianich-Batali-Silverton collab in Hollywood known for Nancy's "fabulous" pies with "sublime" , "impossibly airy" "blistered crusts" (not to mention "heavenly" meatballs and a "ridiculous grin" -inducing butterscotch budino); OK, acoustics are "loud" , "seating is tight" , tabs are "pricey" and reservations are a "must" , but fans insist it's "worth all that" ; P.S. there's a twin in Newport Beach.
Osteria Mozza
Italian · Hancock Park · $$$
Food 4.6 · Decor 4.3 · Service 4.3

A "divine food experience" awaits at this "true foodie" "icon" in Melrose from Mario Batali and Nancy Silverton, whose "superb" pastas and other "extraordinary" Italian fare "live up to all the hype" ; yes, the tabs are "expensive" and the "classic" setting overseen by a "serious" staff is "noisy as hell" , but it's "one of those few places actually worth" it; P.S. it's "still impossible to get into" , though walk-ins can try for a seat at the mozzarella bar.
Beauty & Essex

Californian · Beverly Grove · $$$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.5 · Service 4.4

"Still holding its own" after more than a decade, this ever- "popular" Beverly Grove Californian from Suzanne Goin "never disappoints" with "imaginative" "Med-inspired" small plates matched by a "legit" wine list, "genial" service and "classy" quarters featuring a "breathtaking" patio; yes, it "can get expensive" , but it nonetheless remains a "favorite" for "special occasions" , "leisurely weekend brunches" or "just chilling at the bar."
Drago Centro

Food 4.6 · Decor 4.6 · Service 4.5

"In every way" , from Ian Gresik's "spectacular" , "traditional Italian food" backed by a "massive" and "excellent wine list" to the "elegant" midcentury-inspired room to the "unobtrusive" yet "attentive service" , this "sophisticated" pre-theater "go-to" and "Downtown scene" is "a star" ; thanks to the "high-end" tabs, however, it's perhaps best suited for "special occasions" and "power lunches" (a limited bar menu offers a "well-priced" but still "glamorous" alternative).
Redbird
New American · Downtown · $$
Food 4.5 · Decor 4.7 · Service 4.5

"Dining is a religious experience" at this New American "hot spot" from Neal Fraser, where the "progressive" , "artful" menu highlighting "refined versions of familiar dishes" is almost as revelatory as the setting in the "gorgeous" open-air rectory of the "incredible" Vibiana Cathedral Downtown; add in "inventive cocktails" served by a "warm and wonderful" staff and fans "can hear the choir" (never mind the "pricey" fee for their "lip-smacking sins" ).
Faith & Flower
Californian · Downtown · $$$
Food 4.4 · Decor 4.6 · Service 4.3

A "hip crowd" creates a "buzzy" vibe at this Downtown New American, "one of the hottest tickets in town" whose "adventurous" , "flavor-packed" shared plates, "exquisite cocktails" poured by "talented" bartenders (yes, "you can smoke absinthe!" ) and "sumptuous" vintage decor are all "high" on the "wow factor" ; if you've got the "expense account" for such "understated coolness" , it's a "new standard bearer."
