These San Diego dives and taverns have been around almost as long as the city has.
This dive bar has been serving booze to South Park for the last 75 years. Formerly named Sparky’s, the tavern is now named after longtime patron and former Marine Herman Hamilton.
After Prohibition ended in 1933, two friends opened up a custom bar before hiring a full-time bartender. The drinking hole became a neighborhood sensation, even inspiring a movie, “I Cover the Waterfront”. Since the founders sold the business, the same family has run Waterfront since the early 1970s.
