It's all about the "legendary" "drip-down-your-hand" Italian beef sandwiches "smothered" with hot and sweet peppers and dipped in "meat juices" ( "for god's sake, have them dunk it" ) at this homegrown fast-food chain where the fries are pretty "great too" ; yes, the "no-frills" surrounds are a bit "lackluster" (many "prefer" the Taylor Street original), but when you want to "indulge" , it's a "Chicago classic."

Al's has an amazing Italian Beef. I know a lot of people like to say Portillo's is the best, but I'm telling you they're wrong. Get it with hot peppers, and pair it with a beer or a coke. Trust me, you're good to go! Every bite was amazing, and when friends were in town, I'd always have them grab a sandwich on their last day. It was the perfect "Head to the Airport," last taste of Chicago. Put it this way...friends in town: Al's. Stuck at home sick? Order Al's. In a rush, and need something awesome to go: Al's. Renting a movie for the night? Order Al's. Get the point?

After being away from Chicago for a few years I was really needing a Chicago Italian Beef sandwich. I got the big and had them dip it. Be careful if you are wearing a white Cubs jersey while eating yours. The foot prints are on the floor to help prevent stains. I wanted a cold beer with my beef, but this location does not sell beer. The fires were not all that good, greasy and cold. But the beef was top notch, good flavor and full of juice. Next time I’m at Wrigley, I’ll walk down for a beef.

You haven't eaten Italian beef until you've visited Al's.
