Anatra is a pioneer in this now, rapidly developing area next to the Flower and Fashion Districts that is worth a visit. You might wonder whether a fine dining establishment would indeed be open in this part of DTLA, but it is. In the evening, you can still see some interesting foot traffic who can provide quite the entertainment for window seated guests and the security guard outside. I am also convinced that Anatra is a shared ride pick-up and drop-off hub for this area because we counted an average of one Uber or Lyft driver stop in front of Anatra every 2-3 minutes. The interior is open and airy and just the right amount of simple elegance without feeling too fancy. You can come in jeans and a t-shirt or get real dressed up and still fit right in. It's great for a dinner date, business dinner, or intimate dinner with friends. The menu has several appealing options. The scallops are excellent and perhaps my favorite item on the menu. Wonderfully tender and perfectly seared. The rigatoni with duck ragu was a letdown to be honest. There just wasn't enough duck ragu to handle large, chewy tubes of rigatoni. It came off flavorless. The short rib entree was well cooked - fork tender and delicious. As was the filet - tender and juicy - although it was more of a medium than a medium rare. The lemon tart dessert was also a fine way to end the meal if you don't have too much of a sweet tooth. We felt the service was a bit spotty. We only counted two waitstaff for a Saturday evening. Water cups went unfilled for long stretches even after requesting refills. It was hard to track down our waiter when we needed to order more. I assume this will get better once the restaurant picks up and also staffs up accordingly. That said, a great destination and worth checking out.
