The Zagat Review
Behind an “extra-cool” hidden entrance in a pawn shop, this “vibrant” LES resto-lounge draws a “glam crowd” to “splurge” on “imaginative” New American bites in a bi-level space that “truly is a beauty” ; if you “don’t mind a bit of shameless trendiness” (free champagne in the ladies’ room is a “nice touch” ), it “does impress.”

BEST BRUNCH EVER. My brother and I made a reservation for 18 of us for brunch Saturday afternoon to celebrate our birthday and we were not disappointed. First off - the space is STUNNING and the long sofas we were seated in on the first floor was perfect for our party. The staff was awesome and they were kind enough to take a massive group photo of us when we were finished. Most of us opted in for the unlimited drinks, which was incredible. Most places serve cheap champagne/liquor to make up for the open bar package, but not here. They had the orders coming at a responsible pace and all of us were able to drink with ease. The food however was the clear winner. My brother and I got to curate our courses due to our size and everything from the red velvet waffles, to the grilled cheese dumplings, to the fired chicken biscuit and the oven braised chicken meatballs were phenomenal. We had a couple of friends with allergies and B&E even brought them a specialized offerings which looked just as great. I cannot recommend this place enough. I was honestly taken aback by how good the food was, how great the service was. My friends and I are still raving about it. I am absolutely coming back the next time I'm in town.

I'm a bit disappointed with my recent experience at Beauty & Essex. I planned my sister's birthday brunch and everything that could have possibly went wrong did. After commuting for an hour just to dine here, the food was brought out cold and some items never came. Then, we had no utensils and could not locate our waitress. After about 15 minutes, a manager came over and asked if we needed anything. I informed him of the missing items and lack of utensils. I also inquired about our missing waitress and was informed she had left. The manager was very courteous and did his best to make the most out of what was left of our meal and sent us some dessert on the house. They hold a champagne brunch party upstairs and figured after we were done eating we should go check it out. The music and ambience were great- trying to get the bartender's attention to order a drink was not. The afternoon was just getting started and there were no other customers standing at the bar when he finally came over and sarcastically asked if I was going to order a drink. When we asked for the bill, there were at least 3 additional drinks on there that I never ordered at a total of almost $400. Now I'm not sure about anyone else, but we were standing there for an hour (hour and a half AT MOST) and I know there is no way 4 people could drink almost $400 in mimosas during that time. At this point, I was so over it and in no mood to argue so we decided to pay the bill and get out of there.... but wait- I had to wait for the bartender to figure out what he did with the credit card I gave him to hold the tab. I'm glad I got to cross this place off my bucket list and will not be returning in the future.

Fabulous fabulous fabulous! We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the place was stunning. The decor was very plush and the ambiance was fantastic. The food was out of this world! Make sure you order a side of onion rings. Never seen anything like it. Would highly recommend this place! The milkshake vodka shots for desert was also a great touch.
