Blyth & Burrows
Nautical cocktail bar with small bites
Bar · $$$
Paying homage to the city's maritime history, this multilevel South Portland bar named for two War of 1812 commanders offers nautically inspired cocktails paired with small plates like bone marrow crab cakes, lobster rolls and charbroiled oysters. Whitewashed brick walls, vintage portraits and pressed tin ceilings add to the old-school charm while a hidden speakeasy, The Broken Dram, completes the theme.

This isn't a typical bar. I wouldn't really even call it a bar, it's more of a lounge. The three bars inside offer distinctly different experiences. It's a refined establishment without being overbearing. Elegant, yet laid-back and comfortable. The staff are pleasant, accommodating and very knowledgeable. Drink choices are excellent and the mixology is on par with something you'd expect from a hot spot in a larger city. Highly recommended for a couple of drinks when you are out on the town.

Blyth & Burrows is an absolute MUST FIND excursion in the Old Port. This is basically four separate places in one. It's a very swanky bar just off Exchange St. with a second upper level with a secret door to The Broken Dram on a 3rd lower level and then a 4th even lower level to a very cool parlor. It kind of feels like an escape room with a super cool bar... Doesn't get any cooler than that in the Old Port. My girlfriend thought it was something from Chicago or even New York. If you're looking for an adventure you have to stop in to Blyth & Burrows... It's an adventure and an excursion all rolled up into one.

Very cool speak easy vibe. Decor was cool, bartenders were knowledgeable about what they were serving. Just too hipster and fancy for my taste. While I couldn't just order a Jack and Coke, they had only a somewhat similar sour mash and Coke. But like I said, vibe was real cool. Just a little too packed for me. They seem to make it difficult to spend money in here.
