Great drinks, snacks, and service. Chef came out to chat with us, which was really nice. Slightly less impressed with the entrees - seasoning was off (one thing too spicy, another too salty) and very small portions, although for the most part were still good. Highly recommend the BSC cocktail and the carrot fries. Those were incredible!

Pretty good brunch for a new place. Went for brunch around 10 am. I was the first person and I'm not entirely sure everyone was ready for customers. Seated relatively quickly, ordered coffee and looked over the menu. Coffee was decaf from tandem and I'm pretty sure it was the freeze dried version (only because I had been drinking the same at home). Came in a weird pot that looks like a French press with the filter plunger part but you couldn't actually plunge it so I'm not sure what the purpose was. Ordered the vegetable hash which was beautiful presented and cooked in or coated with some kind of maple syrup (based on my taste buds). The sweetness balanced with the bitterness of the winter veggies and was a great accompaniment to the perfect crisped potatoes and sweet potatoes. Well done. Only one thing didn't really sit well with me and that was my servers habit of referring to me as "my friend" though he never really made any effort to get to know anything about me. I understand that the goal of such language is to make you feel welcome and create a bond with the server (and to incentive you to tip them better) but it just came off as a gimmick. Especially when the bill came and he really looked me in the eyes and emphasized the "my friend" part. I would much have preferred to just have been referred to as sir and I also would have like to know his name (common Portland thing) I did not try the breakfast cocktails but they looked interesting and other tables seemed to be enjoying there's. I'm sure over time they will get better with the service side. It is only a few months old after all so definitely worth a try

It's getting more and more difficult to stand out in this town; whether it be as a bar, restaurant, or a hotel. The fact that the Francis and BS&C manage to do all three at a superb level is a testament to their staff, surroundings, and owners. I hope to be enjoying this place for years to come.
