Boulton & Watt
Industrial gastropub with clever drinks
American · East Village · $$$
The Zagat Review
Gastropub grub gets “kicked up a couple of notches” at this “barlike” East Village American offering updated comfort fare, “inventive” drinks (including “must-try” picklebacks) and an “especially awesome” brunch; “fair prices” help compensate for “noisy” conditions, so it’s a “safe bet” for the “young crowd.”

While the burgers were great and we really enjoyed the somewhat rustic atmosphere, I was admittedly put off by the service. We didn't seem to have a dedicated server, and I say that mostly because she came up to take our order, and then never checked up on us. That's fine, I don't need to be coddled when I'm eating dinner, but when it came to getting the check, we were sitting there for at least 10 minutes before we could flag anyone down. And when we did, they acted like we were inconveniencing them. That doesn't sit well with me and tarnishes the entire experience. Food and fries were both good though.

Great food and a great location. The staff are nice and the venue has a rustic vibe. The environment has low lighting and loud music. They have outdoor seating and downstairs seating too The portions are decent in size with an average entree costing $15. Eat those chips and guacamole with a smile on your face, because you know you’re in for a good time. Hope this helps!

2018 Update: I've organized several more group brunches here - still love it. The staff is always super chill, the gin mimosas are still awesome, and the home fries have improved! // Great place for brunch! We've gone twice with a large group and everyone was very happy. The food is awesome - a lot of variety (decadent or healthy, up to you) and well-prepared. Cocktails (the house mimosa with gin!) are good and reasonably priced. Service was very friendly and attentive. It's a cozy space with modern rustic decor and lots of natural light. Small nitpicks: home fries should be crispy, and I liked the house-made pickles and wanted to try them all, but the prices seemed a bit much. Would definitely book here again.
