The Zagat Review
Health-conscious fare in a “chic” setting is the “refreshing” spin at this West Village New American, where the “creatively prepared” locavore menu features “ultrafresh” vegetables; “inviting” vibes and seasonal cocktails help account for the “lively atmosphere.”

They have an interesting menu. I tried their burger (delicious) and their humus Mediterranean pizzas (They’re called something else but I forgot) that was equally delicious. It’s definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

Cafe Clover is just delightful across the board—food, atmosphere, service and even the aromatic restrooms and subtle but eclectic playlist. It's quintessentially cozy, with a small but diverse menu of starters and small plates, salads and entrees, none of which disappointed my table. David, our waiter, made our experience truly exceptional by offering not one, not two, but THREE complementary dishes, including two dangerous (and gluten-free) desserts. David, the menu and Cafe Clover as a whole is highly accommodating of gluten intolerance, pescetarianism and other dietary restrictions—but everyone is sure to love it. Prepare to pay for it, however.

A perfect expression of how incredible ingredients, talent, and creativity create exceptional food; beautifully and elegantly prepared, I savored and appreciated every bite. Dishes have a wonderful blend of color, flavor, and texture, served at the perfect temperature and absolutely redolent, creating a full sensory experience. Case in point, octopus a la plancha on a cushion of herbaceous tomato sauce along with seared little gems and avocado. Incredibly fragrant, striking visual contrast, and wonderful medley of flavors from slight acidity and sweetness in the puree, tender and savory octopus, crunch, earth, char, and bitterness from the lettuce, all brought together by the rich, creamy, perfectly ripe avocado. Clearly, I liked the food. Beyond that though, Cafe Clover was simply a pleasant place to be. Nestled on a corner in the lovely Greenwich Village, the space balances a modern and traditional aesthetic in a way that is both cozy and refined. It's not small, but there are enough corners and steps to make the setting intimate (great lighting helps too). Lastly, it's clear Cafe Clover has a really excellent team. Greetings are kind and genuine, and the wait staff really knows what they're doing. There's a lot going on and some tight spaces to navigate, but the flow and efficiency was very impressive if you took a moment to watch the action. My server Helena in particular was awesome. She exuded confidence and was very intent, but still made you feel relaxed with her friendliness and quick sense of humor. She moved fast but made sure to give you your time, and you knew you were being taken care of. All in all I really have no complaints. Along with some wine from their nicely curated list, the meal at Cafe Clover was one of the most satisfying I've had in New York. Really looking forward to going back.
