The Zagat Review
A “revamp of a New York classic” , this update of a circa-1915 Greenwich Village cafe focuses on “sophisticated” Italian fare and “amazing” cocktails (including an entire Negroni menu); the original’s “old-school” charm has been updated with whitewashed brick walls and a restored tin ceiling.

This place was outstanding. It's the next day and I am still thinking about how fantastic the food and service was. The only reason I give it 4/5 is that the bottle of red we ordered was too cold. For the price paid for that bottle it should have been the right temp. However, it was still nice.

I went to Dante's after not having been there in a number of years. I knew the old owners, Alfi and Mario. It was a huge disappointment. The coffee was okay but they eliminated the Italian pastry and served a biscotti and canolli that had no relationship to what real Italian pastry is. They also removed a walk sized mural of Florence that gave the place its charm. Tasteless.

I have rarely been as impressed by a first visit to a bar as I was by Dante. The ambiance was great. The place has a unique look. They were playing good music for brunch, and most importantly fantastic service and cocktails. The Negroni menu is cool, and they do fresh juiced citrus from a huge juicer right on the bar. I highly recommend the Garibaldi and the Unlikely Negroni. It's also worth mentioning again how great the service was at the bar. It was very very crowded, but tables and bar seats seemed to turn over fairly frequently. I can't wait to be back!
