This Crown Heights Mexican “shines” with “fantastic” cooking, “quick” service and prices that “don't hurt” ; sure, “there's always a wait” to get in, but the reward – at least according to margarita fans – is a “permanent smile on your face.”

Really nice decor. Very attentive bartender (and staff). Kind of loud with the crowd and kids, but overall a good place for a night out or date night (but not first dates because of the sound level). I’m never super into Mexican food, however, I can tell this place is better than NYC average (the tortilla in the enchiladas need more consistency though)....but nothing to write home with. This could be a romantic place had it not been so busy. Food: 3.5 Ambiance: 4.5 Service: 4.5

For those looking for the best Mexican fare on Franklin Ave, look no further! AMAZING food is served along with a selection of tequilas, margaritas & other specialty cocktails. Top notch service and quality food and drinks. Chavela's is a safe bet for a great evening out in Crown Heights!

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, the food is really great. On the other hand, the margaritas are pretty disgusting. The house margaritas at least taste really chemical. The food is really good. A bit on the high price area and the whole place is pretty small so you'll usually have to wait if you're going in the evening. They won't seat you unless you're entire party is there too, by the way (which is fine, just good to know ahead of time). Vegetarian options are limited too.
