Contemporary Spanish eats on the pier

The Zagat Review
Experience Michael Chiarello's "magic at its best" at this "happening" Spaniard (and Bottega sibling) on the Embarcadero, where a "rustic" locale with "perfect bay views" sets the stage for sharing the "delectable" likes of paella, bite-size pintxos and tapas, all punched up with "American twirl and show" and ferried by an "efficient" staff; even with "platinum-card" pricing, it's a "very popular" spot with a "lively" bar for "sipping cleverly constructed cocktails" and regional wines.

Food is excellent. Had three tapas and a paella which was plenty for a dinner for two. In fact we didn’t finish the paella. Service was great by the wait staff who do a nice job making recommendations. Definitely get a gin based drink here as they are excellent. Their claaaic gin drink is worth it and extremely tasty.

Excellent food! They offer a nice selection of tapas, from skewers to cheeses, so you can try a couple of different items without getting full fast. They also serve paella and other main courses. Prices are mid-range. We reserved in advance but still waited quite a bit for a table. Service was okay. Our wait staff was pleasant and gave some good recommendations. I like that they don’t bring all the plates at once but we did run out of food at one point and had to wait 10 minutes for the next plate. The dining area is quite busy and noise was intolerable at times.

We had a wonderful experience at this delightful restaurant last Friday evening. It's a small place with seating for only 72 in the dining area. Our dinner reservation was for 5:00 pm, which allowed us to have a quiet start to our meal before the room filled up. Our table of 4 enjoyed a few appetizers, drinks and an order of paella. The paella was delicious, but there was very little food in the pan for $45. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable evening out.
