Donut · Grantville · $
Grantville's answer to the vegan donut, this independently owned sweets shop serves up plant-based pastries on the weekend (with plans to extend open hours). I had been hearing about this donut shop and how good the donuts are. I decided to stop in the way to work to get some for the girls at works. All the reviews about this place are right. The donuts are very good here

I come here for the vegan donits and I'm not vegan!! Their traditional donuts and coffee are great also; my husband gets that. These donuts though, have ruined me -- the texture is dense and more like a quality pastry which I now crave. I've had a lemon filled with powdered sugar topping, and a raspberry filled with chocolate icing, but Boston creme is always my favorite! The classic ring donuts that are vegan, are iced with unique flavors. We stumbled upon this place by accident 2 years ago and it became our place to go, even driving 15 min from home. Now we live on the East coast and when I return to San Diego it is a place I make a point to go. I have not found vegan Donuts anywhere else.

Interesting wall decorations - projects from local artist, UCSD poster making the library look like a UFO (I asked ad apparently UCSD had a ComicCon thing and this poster was made for the event) a Donut Panic painted logo, old school speakers and record player. They have board games and other events that are listed on a chalkboard sign as you enter. It's a neighborhood donut shop in this college area, not a fancy downtown type spot but it's charming. It may look simple and a bit jumbled together, but I see the potential and imagine game nights and groups just hanging out. I'm quirky and odd and I like it. I just wish my cold icy frap drink had more flavor. He (I'm guessing he's the owner) hasn't perfected that one. 😉 I think the cold drink options were just added because other spots offer cold drinks. A little sweetener and it's fine. The donut was fine though and I used it to give me my desired sweetness. I did comment to the two people working how much I appreciate the things they've done and offer to customers.
