EJ's Urban Eatery
Rustic outpost for eclectic BBQ
Modern technique meets Southern tradition inside this West Bottoms counter-serve meat-and-three joint, where chef John Cedric Smith (801 Chophouse, Pig & Finch) dishes up smoked meats, hot fried chicken and classic sides, plus beer and cocktails. Tin ceilings, bare beams, a long wooden bar and exposed brick complete the down-home vibe.

This is an amazing place to eat! It brings a southern concept to Kansas so you can build your own plate for a bargain price! Its a small, family owned and run business trying to bring some new life to the West Bottoms. The meat is amazing, especially the ribs, and they have so many sides and they are to die for! There is no designated kids menu but many kid friendly options. Very welcoming and accommodating!

Phenomenal food; the brisket grilled cheese was amazing. The staff is amazing as well, very friendly and easy going. I love the feel of the place and they had Crane Brewery’s Omar Porter which it is rare to come by a porter or stout (not Guinness) at many food places. 👌 good job guys.

My first visit to EJ’s on Sunday mid-day and it was a wonderful experience. We were greeted immediately by staff and service was outstanding with visits by the bartender and owner to make sure we were well-attended. The ‘Meat & 3' is a great concept and my brisket with dipping sauce was very good but the greens and sweet potato wedges were fantastic with so much good flavor. Having local Crane Brewing Porter on tap was a bonus. The built in lazy Susans make it easy to share nibbles with friends around the table and I can’t wait to get back to try EJ’s other dishes.
