Italian trattoria with handmade pasta
Italian · Venice Beach
A temperature-controlled and glass-enclosed pasta-rolling laboratory helms the center of this warm-wood and mid-century vintage-themed Italian trattoria from beloved chef Evan Funke, on hip Abbot Kinney in Venice. Pappardelle, rigatoni, orchiette and other hand-made noodles emerge as carefully plated yet rustic dishes, alongside a robust and traditional menu of antipasti, secondi and vegetable contorni—plus old school aperitivi and European beers.

First I want to say, the staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. The food however, wasn’t really worth the money for me. We ordered two pasta dishes, the first one had Italian bacon in it, which is already very salty. But the key is not to over salt the dish itself. The dish was the saltiest pasta dish I’ve ever had, it was so bad my husband no longer wanted to finish it. The second pasta dish had clams in it, the first thing I noticed was how incredibly small the plate was considering the size difference to our first dish, the plate didn’t represent any of the pictures I had seen online or around me. The pasta itself was very fresh and the sauce was amazing, but wasn’t worth the price to have such a small portion. The clams were cooked nicely but with every bite I could taste left over sand which took away the enjoyment of the clams. Our drinks however were very good and bartender was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere was nice but this isn’t a place I’d go back to if I was very hungry the dishes left me confused and in desperate need of water from the left over sand and saltiness that was left in my mouth. Over all experience was just okay.

After trying pretty much their whole menu, I can honestly say the food at Felix is just okay. It was such an anticipated evening with reservations being so hard to get and with people already waiting outside by the time we got there. The hosts were really nice and our server was excellent, the food... not so much. We were offered water as soon as we sat down which tasted awful. It was so bad that we asked for bottled water but they didn’t have any. Non of our dishes came hot and some of our pastas were even raw. I actually enjoy my noodles a little undercooked but these were inedible. I even found sand in my clams which just seems like poor execution. I would say that their drinks were one of my favorite parts, but unfortunately mine got taken away half way through drinking it while I wasn’t paying attention so that was a bummer. Their gnocchi pasta and their pizza were both actually amazing, which earns this place my 3 stars. I would probably not go back giving that it is so pricey for the portions they give and the quality of the food was a little bit of a let down.

Great food. Average cocktails. You need to book ahead... Or... So what we did and turn up, wait, and join the melee when a seat becomes available. The melee is why I gave 4 stars. Why don't they run a queue for walk ins rather than watch people jockeying for positions and then having the inevitable bad words to each other.
