This "SF institution" with an "iconic setting" overlooking the Embarcadero is anchored by a central bar and an open kitchen turning out "wood-fired" New American small and large plates plus desserts such as "housemade custard and French crullers" ; it may be "noisy" , but "skilled" mixologists and proximity to "touristy" destinations make it ideal for a "nice date" or "to take out-of-town guests."

Very limited menu. The butternut squash soup was very good but that was it. Onion rings were cold, beef brisket was more of a fatty pot roast drowned in a sour BBQ sauce, served cold, the pizza my wife ordered was tasteless, and likewise cold. Service was friendly but very, very slow. Long delay between seating and ordering, and again between the soup/salads and entree arrival. By the time the dessert menu arrived, we just wanted out of there. Our daughter mentioned she passed a table as we were leaving where she overheard a couple discussing sending their brownie dessert back. Now it's six hours later and I woke up with acid reflux and a sick feeling. Bottom line: while highly recommended by friends who live here, they had not been in years. Wanted to like this far more than we did. Disappointing.

It's a long time since I have been here and I'm still impressed. Good value for the money. Tasty food and friendly efficient service. No problem finding parking

Listed as one of the best burgers in San Fran. If that's true this city needs to learn how to cook a.hamburger. The bacon was crispy to the point of burnt. Yum :( the burger was dry. The cheese barely existent. The fries so crunchy I thought my tooth would shatter. This was after the 15 minutes of being ignored after being sat. Had high hopes. They were dashed. Oh and any place that charges 20 bucks or more for a hamburger should get it right. Never going back.
