Freek's Mill
Locally sourced American cooking

The Zagat Review
Named for an 18th-century mill on nearly the same site, this Gowanus American draws on local farms and producers for a menu that spans veggie-based plates, seafood and meat, including some wood-roasted options. Rough brick walls lend a semi-industrial look to the simple space, which also has a bar dispensing wine and seasonal cocktails.

Not too bad, not nothing to get excited about. The concept is great. Locally sourced, farm to table foods with a wood fired oven. However, the wood fired oven starts to make all the food taste very similar. Also, taking vegetable and roasting them in an oven with some spices is a very healthy and simple way to cook, but I don't see the point of paying $20 to have that preparation. It's a very simple and easy prep that one can execute at home. When I dine out, I prefer meals that require a little more technique and effort. All in all, if you live within reasonable distance of this restaurant, it's worth a visit. It is charming with a unique location. However, if you have to travel more than 5 subway stops or longer than a 15 minute car ride, you will likely find equal offerings elsewhere. PS, we were so hungry after the meal we drove to Bensonhurst and got half a tray from Spumoni gardens.

The burger is delicious. And the service is crazy good; they took great care of me and my one-year-old and give us 4- people table for ther 2 of us, so we could sit one next to another. Small selection of beers but very good choice. The cocktail bar looks pretty well filled. We will come back

Disappointing. • small portions • unfriendly service • they run out of the best dishes halfway through brunch • B health code rating • you’ll spend $50 per person & leave hungry We stopped in today for brunch after I have been wanting to go for a few months. The decor is beautiful and the menu is exciting. The service was pretty much terrible from start to finish. We weren’t really greeted by our waitress and she didn’t inform us right away that two of he menu items were done for the day. They happened to be the two items that everyone at our table had been planning to order so we had to pick other options. With such a small menu, how do you run out of two items halfway through brunch? The potions are very small for the price tag and the food was good but we had to order another “round” of food each because we were still hungry. The second round of food took a really long time to arrive and our waitress was not friendly and also unapologetic that she had forgotten a dish in our initial order. Brunch ended up being about $50 per person and we still left hungry and not feeling good about the service, so, all in all, v disappointing. 👎🏼
