Gabrielle Restaurant
Cheery spot for refined Cajun fare
Cajun · Treme · $$
The second incarnation of a longstanding Mid City eatery – the original location shuttered after Hurricane Katrina – this family-run Treme outpost offers sophisticated yet unflashy Cajun fare like braised rabbit, slow-roasted duck and crabmeat-stuffed Gulf fish, plus wine and classic cocktails. The cozy space, with its colorful paintings, polished wood, white tablecloths and simple tile floors, mirrors the menu’s timeless simplicity.

Gabrielle is the epitome of what classic refined Cajun cuisine is and should be. My first Gabrielle experience was in August of 1994 and they never disappointed me in the 10 years we visited. So happy they’re back on the map!

My first experience at Gabrielle was wonderful. First of all it has a cozy, warm, upscale yet casual ambience. I started with a Sazerac cocktail, then had the grilled shrimp salad, a special off-menu entree with oysters and shrimp, vegetables to accommodate my pescatarian request (my husband had a special off-menu vegetarian dish.) We finished by splitting a huge slice of the Aloha cake. Friends had the duck. All of us were blown away with how delicious and perfect everything was. And the service was A+. Couldn't get any better. We will be back. Gabrielle is a New Orleans gem.

Any dish this restaurant does with rabbit in it is bound to be delicious. I recommend the Ponce De Lapin appetizer in particular.
