The Zagat Review
"Low lights" and a "sexy ambiance" make for a "romantic evening" at this French-Spanish "hideaway" Downtown, where many "first dates" begin with "creative" cocktails at the "energetic" ground-floor bar before progressing to the upstairs dining area for "delicious" Andalusian-inspired plates; it's not cheap, but service is "warm" , and many agree it "adds much-needed spice" to the city.

This is San Francisco's truly iconic and staple of San Francisco, deeply saddened that they are closing I have grown to this restaurant for over 12 years I followed their work and design in architectural design, it made me want to come and experience this venue, the restaurant is eclectic and vibrant and a Timeless. Of eccentric emotions Hues & colors. The staff is friendly and amazing the cooks in the kitchen rock out every dish consistent On Any Given night. Why I will always hold a deeply special place in my heart for gitane, you have given me and my husband many memories of Gitane! Unfortunately the building over is a greedy douche. Continue to be you Gitane we will always follow you where ever you land. Kudos.

First the atmosphere is beautiful! I had high expectations when walking into Gitane. The appetizer was amazing... everything after that could have been better. The service is super slow. If you ask for a drink... give them 15 minutes. This is not the worst place but not the fine dining I was expecting.

Wish I could have gone. I used to stare @ this place from my little office across the street and wonder what was the behind the glass door in the red room. Today I saw them loading out what seemed to be the remains of a beautiful interior. Also hears the the Spanish food they used to serve was second to none. While I never made it to Gitane, I did hear they had 2 other place. One is also now closed, leaving Claudine the sole survivor or is is Cafe Claude. I can never remember which is which. Sad to see another space close down on Kearny. I guess I'll just have to walk the half block to Belden Place
