“Corporate crowds” head to these “busy” Americans for “well-executed” food (including a “must-have” spinach-artichoke dip) served in “dark” , “modern” digs suitable for everything from “business lunches” to “date nights” ; just be ready for “noisy” bar scenes, particularly “after work.”

Absolutely love the food here! Best veggie burger and fries I've ever had, and also a pretty great French dip. They have an ice cream sundae not in the menu which is to die for! Basically vanilla ice cream with candied walnuts with a vat of chocolate fudge sauce on the side.

So, it is with great regret that I write this review. Let me start off by saying that I have been to Hillstone on many different occasions...and this was by far the worst experience that I have ever had! Granted that it is Santa-con here in NYC and everyone is being extra careful. I understand the need to push away the young kids that are drunk, not 45 year old adults that are sober. No harm, no foul! However, when you come to Hillstone you also understand that you are about to embark on a hefty tab and that you are already mentally prepared! First, our server at the bar was Shaina as per the manager, Mackenzie. I must say that I have never been treated as such in any NYC upscale restaurant. I expected to be treated as a customer that often enjoys a steak and a good dessert. After a $400+ meal, I was told after my last glass of wine that I could no longer drink...??? I must say that I was shocked and asked to speak to a manager. Enter Mackenzie. I asked about the policy that the restaurant had and mind you this was private and in person. I would have never called anyone out! I was told that the policy was on a "Case-By-Case" basis. The manager would not answer my question...??? Strange... With that said they offered the last glass on the house. However, my time and money were already spent and I left a very unhappy customer! I completely understand if I or my party were being completely belligerent, loud or unruly and they did not want to serve us. With this not being the case I feel like we were profiled and treated as second class citizens. I know that people do not like to hear that and that it is more than likely the fault of the patrons. But, I really feel like Shaina and Mackenzie were treating us a specific way...I will not reveal our race or anything like that as I am trying to be objective. However, I would not recommend that anyone sit in Shaina's space...yes, they do split tips. So, sit at the bar at your own risk! Another note...there was another group that was refused service just because they were in holiday sweaters! Can you believe not being served all because you were in a holiday sweater...???!!! They were very upset to say the least! And rightfully so! Hillstone, stop discriminating against your customers! Demand that your servers and bartenders treat customers with respect, dignity and a little bit of grace especially since they are spending such an absurd amount of money in your restaurant! Additionally, I think a training program for your managers would be very beneficial!
