Upbeat Japanese tavern in Verb Hotel
Japanese · Fenway/Kenmore · $$
A casual but still somewhat "pricey" sibling to ultra-luxe O Ya, this Fenway izakaya features "inventive" , "flavorful" Japanese small plates that pair well with thirst-slaking beverages such as Asian craft beers and "stellar" frozen cocktails; the "outrageously fun decor" – complete with graffiti-covered walls and kitschy memorabilia (hello, Hello Kitty) – befits its poolside location in the rock 'n' roll–inspired Verb Hotel.

Anyone complaining about the price needs to realize where they are and the type of restaurant they are in. I decided to try brains for the first time here. Absolutely delicious. I always say don't knock it till you try it. I also had their salmon sushi. The rolls fell apart slightly but tasted good. After my meal I realized why they charge $12 for a drink. I left with a wonderful buzz and no mad cow disease from the boiled brains. I say that's worth a rant and a rave. Would recommend to anyone who'd like to try something new.

Just grabbed a few drinks here. Super cool idea and atmosphere. Hipster spot all the way. We enjoyed all the different areas to hang out. Although there was some type of incense or something burning the whole time that was a little too strong. Other than that a really cool place to grab a drink or bite to eat.

Honestly I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food considering most fusion restaurants butcher both cultures that it's trying to "fuse". My only gripe is that the food isn't really worth the price! A couple of shrimp and rice cakes for $14? Don't expect to get full very quickly. Would recommend the okonomiyaki though! It's surprisingly well done.
